General Dentistry

A beautiful smile isn’t necessarily a healthy one. Strong, healthy teeth and gums are the foundation on which an aesthetically pleasing smile is built. That’s why we make sure that you have a healthy foundation before we begin any cosmetic enhancements.
At Greenhill Famiy Dental Care we offer many general and family dentistry options, from preventive care to root canal therapy. It is our goal to make sure that your smile is not only beautiful, but also healthy so that it will continue to bring you confidence for a lifetime.

Preventive Dentistry
We focus on preventing oral health problems from occurring before they have an opportunity to affect your smile. To keep your teeth and gums healthy and beautiful, we recommend scheduling a preventive general dentistry appointment every six months.

Professional Cleanings and Checkups
Regular cleanings and check-up examinations that are performed by a dental professional are an important part of keeping your teeth and gums healthy. Cleanings help keep tartar and plaque from building up on the surfaces of the teeth. We also do a thorough examination so that we have a chance to treat small problems before they develop into bigger problems.

Fluoride Treatments
Fluoride has been shown to help strengthen teeth, making them more resistant to decay. At our Gainesville practice, our general and family dentistry offerings include tooth-saving fluoride treatments.

Sealants
We can also apply sealants to the teeth to further help protect them from decay. Sealants are plastic coatings that are placed on the teeth to create a barrier that prevents decay-causing substances from collecting on them.

Endodontic Therapy
In some cases, a tooth becomes so badly decayed that the pulp of a tooth becomes infected. The pulp is a mass of nerves, blood vessels, and other tissue within the tooth. To save a tooth when the pulp has become infected, we can perform endodontic therapy. More commonly known as root canal therapy, the procedure involves removing the infected pulp, filling the tooth, and sealing it with a porcelain crown for added strength.

Tooth-Colored Fillings
Unsightly metal fillings are obsolete with the new tooth-colored material we use. Tooth-colored fillings blend in so well that it’s often difficult to tell which tooth has a filling. In addition, there have been recent concerns that the mercury in amalgam (metal) fillings pose a potential health hazard. As part of our family and general dentistry options, we use only mercury-free, tooth-colored fillings for our patients’ well-being and peace of mind.

Tooth Extractions
We do whatever we can to help save every tooth. However, sometimes a tooth cannot be saved, and removal is the best option to keep your mouth healthy. To make your tooth extraction as comfortable as possible, we use the Wand®, an advanced anesthetic delivery system that ensures that your procedure will be pain-free.  Once a tooth has been removed, it is important to replace it in order to prevent the surrounding teeth from shifting out of place. We can recommend several tooth replacement options, including dental implants, and dentures or bridges.

Technology for Safety and Comfort
We put our patients’ comfort and safety first. That’s why we use the latest technologies for our family and general dentistry treatments.

Digital X-Rays
X-rays are valuable for diagnosing potential problems in the teeth, gums, and bones which are often not visible to the naked eye. We take your safety to the next level by using digital x-rays, which reduce exposure to radiation by 90 percent. They also produce a high-quality image immediately, eliminating the need to wait for traditional x-rays to develop.

The Wand® Anesthetic Delivery System
The Wand® is the latest advancement in the delivery of anesthetic. This computer-controlled injection system makes receiving local anesthetic much more comfortable and effective for our patients than the traditional shot.
